1. What is a Vietnam spouse visa – Vietnam TT Visa?

The Vietnam-dependent visa is known as a family visa in Vietnam. You can identify it by the TT symbol on the visa. This type of visa allows spouses and children of certain foreigners or spouses and children and parents of Vietnamese citizens to travel to Vietnam for long-term living.

2. Who is eligible for the Vietnam TT visa for foreigners?

According to the Law No. 51/2019/QH14 dated November 25, 2019, of Law on entry, exit, transit and residence of foreigners in Vietnam of the National Assembly on amendments to a number of articles, Vietnam-dependent visa TT is granted to:

  • Spouses, parents of children of Vietnam citizens.
  • Spouses or children under 18 years old of foreigners issued with LV1, LV2, LS, DT1, DT2, DT3, NN1, NN2, DH, PV1, LD1 or LD2 visas.

Issued to people who come to work with units affiliated to:

  • Vietnam’s Communist Party;
  • The National Assembly;
  • Central Committee of Vietnamese Fatherland Front;
  • The People’s Supreme Procuracy;
  • The government;
  • The People’s Supreme Court;
  • State Audit Agency;
  • Ministries;
  • Ministerial agencies;
  • The People’s Councils;
  • Governmental agencies;
  • The People’s Committees of provinces.

LV2 visa

Issued to people who come to work with:

  • Socio-political organizations,
  • Social organizations,
  • Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

LS visa

Issued to the foreign lawyers who come to Vietnam to practice.

DT1 visa

Issued to the foreign investors coming to Vietnam:

  • Representatives of organizations which invest in Vietnam and contribute capital of VND 100 billion or more.
  • Administrative divisions benefitting from investment incentives decided.

DT2 visa

Issued to the foreign investors coming to Vietnam:

  • Representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam and contributing capital of VND 50 billion to less than 100 billion.
  • Administrative divisions benefitting from investment incentives decided.
DT3 visa Issued to the foreign investors coming to Vietnam:

  • Representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam and contributing capital of VND 03 billion to less than 50 billion.
NN1 visa Issued to Managers of representative offices or foreign non-governmental organizations and projects of international organizations in Vietnam.
NN2 visa Issued to heads of representative offices, representative offices, branches of foreign traders of other foreign professional, economic, and cultural, organizations in Vietnam.
DH visa Issued to people who come to serve internships or study.
PV1 visa Issued to journalists having permanent residences in Vietnam.
LD1 visa Issued to foreigners working certified of eligibility for work permit exemption in Vietnam. Unless otherwise international agreements specify to which Vietnam is a signatory.

3. Who can sponsor a foreign family visa to Vietnam?

All foreigners are required to have a sponsor in Vietnam to get a dependent visa. The sponsor must have a family relationship with the visa applicant. It can be a child-parent or marriage relationship.

Basically, the sponsor for his/her family to get a dependent visa comprises of:

  • Vietnamese citizens,
  • The foreigners who have been issued with a Vietnam visa symbolized or corresponding Vietnam temporary residence card and the applicant’s company must sponsor.

4. Where to get a Vietnam spouse visa?

You can get a Vietnam spouse visa, a Vietnam family visa at the Vietnam embassy or a Vietnam arrival airport if you are outside the Vietnam territory. If you are in Vietnam, you can convert your current visa into a TT visa at the Vietnam Immigration Department.

5. How to get a Vietnam dependent visa?

There are two ways for you to get a Vietnam-dependent visa. Many people took advantage of this. In this paragraph, we will introduce it carefully in order to help you find a suitable way for you.

5.1. Get Vietnam spouse visa in Vietnam

5.1.1. Step 1: Prepare required documents

The sponsor is a Vietnamese citizen:

  • Form NA5: The application form for issuance of visas, and visa extension of foreigners in Vietnam.
  • Original passport of the dependent ( At least 01 blank page and 06 months valid).
  • 02 portrait photos of the dependent.
  • Notarized copies of ID Card and family book of the sponsor.
  • Documents proving family relationship: Marriage certificate, birth certificate,etc

The sponsor is a foreigner:

  • Form NA5: The application form for issuance of visas, and visa extension of foreigners in Vietnam.
  • Original passport of the dependent ( At least 01 blank page and 06 months valid).
  • Copy of sponsor’s valid passport and Vietnam visa/temporary residence card.
  • Documents proving family relationship: Marriage certificate, birth certificate,etc
  • Notarized copies of documents of the sponsor’s work.
  • Letter of introduction to follow the visa application procedure at the Vietnam Immigration Department.

5.1.2. Step 2: Get visa stamped

After preparing the required documents, you need to go to the nearest Immigration office. In Vietnam, there are three Immigration offices:

  • Immigration office in Ha Noi: 44-46 Tran Phu, Ba Dinh, Hanoi
  • Immigration office in Da Nang: 78 Le Loi, Thach Thang, Hai Chau, Da Nang
  • Immigration office in Ho Chi Minh City: 333-335-337 Nguyen Trai, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.

5.2. Get Vietnam spouse visa outside Vietnam

5.2.1. Step 1: Prepare required documents for approval letter

For the sponsor is a Vietnamese citizen:

  • Form NA2: The application form of a request for pre-clearance of foreigners’ entry into Vietnam.
  • Original passport of the dependent ( At least 01 blank page and 06 months valid).
  • 02 portrait photos of the dependent.
  • Notarized copies of ID Card and family book of the sponsor.
  • Documents proving family relationship: Marriage certificate, birth certificate,..

For the sponsor is a foreigner:

  • Form NA2: The application form of a request for pre-clearance of foreigners’ entry into Vietnam.
  • Original passport of the dependent ( At least 01 blank page and 06 months valid).
  • Copy of sponsor’s valid passport and Vietnam visa/temporary residence card.
  • Documents proving family relationship: Marriage certificate, birth certificate,..
  • Notarized copies of documents of the sponsor’s work.
  • Letter of introduction to follow the visa application procedure at the Vietnam Immigration Department.

5.2.3. Step 2: Get approval letter

You will get the TT visa approval letter, not a visa stamp. The sponsor needs to send this approval letter’s scan to the dependent in order to complete the procedure to get a TT visa for Vietnam.

5.2.4. Step 3: Get family visa Vietnam

Upon receiving the scan of the approval letter, the sponsored person needs to prepare some documents to finish the visa application process so that the dependent can get the TT visa stamped at the place stated in the letter. The required documents include:

  • A printout of a scan.
  • A Vietnamese visa application form (Vietnam entry and exit form).
  • 02 portrait photos (4x6cm).
  • Original passport ( At least 01 blank page and 06 months valid).
